JACKSON, Tenn. - A three spot climb resulted from a final round 290 for the University of West Georgia men's golf team as the Wolves finished ninth at the Grover Page Classic in Jackson, Tennessee on Tuesday.
West Georgia entered the day in 12th after only playing one round on a rain-shortened Monday, but behind a pair of 71s from true freshmen Thomas Romani and Max Winnersjo, the Wolves were able to climb inside the top-10 and finish ahead of six established Division I programs in their second event of this inaugural Division I campaign.
The top finisher for the Wolves was freshman Milton Wallin who followed up yesterday's 68 with a 74 to finish in 17th place. Will Sutton also shot a 74 on Tuesday and placed 34th. Romani, who finished tied with Sutton after his one-under final round made four birdies on the day.
Winnersjo made four birdies as well en route to his final round 71, finishing in 50th place individually. Jeremy Edmunds wrapped up his first event as a Wolf with a 79 and finished in 90th place.
Tyler Nesci competed as an individual in the event and finished with an even par 72 and vaulted up to 60th place individually.
The team title was claimed by SIU-Edwardsville after a final round 276 erased an eight shot deficit and moved the winners up from fifth to the top spot.
UWG's next action is set for September 30-October 1 at the Ironwood Collegiate Classic hosted by East Carolina in Greenville, North Carolina.
