RICHMOND, Ky. - The UWG men's golf team saved their best for last in their first event as a Division I program, firing a four-under final round of 280 to move up two spots and finish in fourth place out of the 12-team field at the Colonel Shootout in Richmond, Kentucky.
West Georgia's final round was highlighted by two under-par rounds from Christopher Dedman and Max Winnersjo, with Milton Wallin's final round 72 clinching the best individual finish by a Wolf at the tournament hosted by Eastern Kentucky. All-in-all, a solid first performance for the Wolves and new head coach Shannon Lipham.
"I'm really happy with how we played this week, and especially today," said Lipham. "To come out and post a top-five finish in the first tournament of the season and our first Division I event sets the tone for what we want to accomplish as a team, and we also had some great individual rounds this weekend."
While Wallin won the weekend as a whole, finishing in sixth-place individually with a 54-hole total of 210, Dedman closed out his first collegiate event with a 67 to finish in 25th while Winnersjo posted a second straight sub-par round with a 69 to finish in 18th place.
Elsewhere on the leaderboard for UWG was Will Sutton in 34th after a one-over 72 on Sunday. Tyler Nesci wrapped up his opening event of 2024-25 with a 77 and finished in 56th place. Algot Faldt finished in 78th place with an 82 on Sunday.
West Georgia finished behind team champion and tournament host Eastern Kentucky who obliterated the field with a 54-hole team score of 24-under par (548) and Samford who shot two-under as a team and Robert Morris.Â
UWG is next in action on September 16-17 at the Grover Page Classic in Jackson, Tennessee at Jackson Country Club.
