BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The UWG women's track and field team wrapped up its first Invitational of the 2025 season, competing in the Samford Invitational in Birmingham.
Freshman
Tykendra Daniel headlined the day by setting a new UWG 400m record with a blistering time of 57.14.
The team competed in seven running events: the 60m, 60m hurdles, 200m, 400m, 800m, the 3000m and one miler.
In field competition, the Wolves took on six events: the weight throw, shot put, long jump, triple jump, pole vault and the high jump.
Five runners represented UWG in the 60m, but
Campbell Brown was the lone competitor to make it out of the prelims. The junior from Forsyth finished in 11th with a time of 7.71. Following this impressive run, Brown followed it up with a better time of 7.70, placing her in sixth and earning a spot in the finals. In the finals, Brown matched her best time of 7.70, finishing seventh overall.
In the 60m hurdles, no Wolves made it past the prelims, but sophomore
Valeyna Renteria-Silva posted a personal-best 9.58, positioning her in 26th.
Brown placed a team-best 24th in 200m while setting her personal record of 25.60. Senior
Jaeva Ridley also set a personal best record of 27.19 for a 42nd place finish. Junior
Elizabeth Osborne placed at 47th with a time of 28.83.
In the 400m,
Tykendra Daniel set the school record with a blazing 57.14. Notably, Daniels was the only freshman to finish in the top-six. Osborne crossed the line at 104.70 to finish at 27th overall.
Finishing in the team-best 29th spot for the Wolves in the 800m was sophomore
Jordan Jarnot with a personal record of 2:42.18.
Junior
Kathrin Maurer placed a West Georgia-best 23rd in the 3000m with a personal-best 10:45.61. Sophomore
Kristal McQueen trailed slightly behind, placing in 27th with a 10:50.28. Sophomore
Laney Pierce finished in 38th coming in at the 12:01.36 mark.
Senior
Stephanie Beltran crossed the finish line in the one-mile race with a personal-best time of 5:58.80, securing 43rd place.
Moving to the field, UWG kicked things off in the weight throw by having three athletes finish in the top-11. Freshman
Day Atkins led the way with a throw of 14.90m, ranking her in seventh. Sophomore
Kyla Ford came in ninth with a 14.42m and sophomore
Dru Green rounded the pack out with a 14.08m throw to place her in 11th.
In the shot put, Green came in 14th with a team-best 11.57m throw. Sophomore
Jaycee Woods placed next for the Wolves in 20th with a 10.01 throw, followed by Atkins in 21st at 9.81m and Ford 23rd at 9.58m.
Senior
Taylor Hampton shined brightest in the long jump, coming in fourth overall with an average flight of 5.68. Senior
Dasani Minter finished with a 4.84m average, ranking her in 24th.
The Wolves were led by senior
Haley Trammell in the triple jump, ranking at fourth with an 11.64m jump. Freshman
Jordan Kelly placed slightly behind at sixth with a 10.75m jump.
In the pole vault, sophomore
Carleigh Bynum led the way for the Wolves with a 3.67m leap, earning her an 10th place finish.
Closing out the day of field events, senior
Olivia Fulford placed 17th in the high jump with a 1.51m leap.
The Wolves take a small break before returning to the Birmingham Crossplex on February 7-8 to compete in the UAB Invitational.
