Danhof Breaks Decade-Long Record in Outdoor Opener

ATLANTA, Ga.- The University of West Georgia women's track and field team opened the outdoor season on Friday at the Yellow Jacket Invitational, hosted by Georgia Tech, highlighted by a record breaking performance in the 1500m.

Sprints & Hurdles
In the 100m hurdles, Kierra McKenna paced the Wolves with a time of 15.75, followed by Empress Malone who crossed in 16.65. The Wolves had four competitors in the 100m dash, led by Kellie Walker, who clocked a time of 11.97, just one tenth of a second shy of the UWG school record. Campbell Brown followed with a time of 12.40, while Lia Long at 12.65 and Genesis Price at 12.80 rounded out the sprint group.

Distance
In the 1500m, Reatta Danhof turned in a historic run, finishing in 4:38.89 to break a UWG record that had stood for over a decade, surpassing the previous mark of 4:53.9 set in 2015. In the 3000m steeplechase, Kathrin Maurer led the Wolves with a time of 11:55.87, with Haley Hartman close behind at 12:23.79. Catherine Greer competed in the 5000m, posting a time of 18:54.39 as UWG's lone entry in the event.

Throws
In the hammer throw, Dru Green led UWG with a mark of 47.88m, followed closely by Day Atkins at 47.19m. Atkins returned in the shot put and delivered a standout performance, earning a second place finish with a throw of 13.44m. Kyla Ford represented UWG in the javelin, recording a throw of 24.55m.

UWG concludes day one of the Yellow Jacket Invitational with momentum, highlighted by a record breaking performance and a second place finish.
