West Georgia Ready for Maroon and White Tune Up

CARROLLTON, Ga.- The University of West Georgia women's track and field team is coming off an impressive performance at the Bulldog Invitational, recording 15 top-five finishes, three event victories, four personal bests, and broke a UWG record on the way to earning a second-place team finish. After two weeks without competition, UWG returns to action this Friday, May 1 at the Maroon and White Tune Up, hosted by Mississippi State.

Wolves to Watch
After the Bulldog Invitational, West Georgia claimed two ASUN weekly honors. Kellie Walker earned ASUN Freshman of the Week after placing fourth in the 100m with a time of 12.03 as the top freshman in the field. She also won the 200m in a personal-best 24.31, which leads all conference freshmen.

Day Atkins was named ASUN Field Performer of the Week for the second consecutive week after another standout performance in the throws. Atkins won the hammer throw at 49.77m, placed second in the discus at 42.29m, and claimed first in the shot put at 13.74m. She ranks among the top conference leaders in all three events.

Sprints & Hurdles
West Georgia brings a talented sprint group led by Kellie Walker in the 100m at 11.93, followed by Campbell Brown at 11.87, Lia Long at 12.65, and Genesis Price at 12.80. In the 200m, Walker again leads the way at 24.31, while Elise Duncanson enters at 24.49, Brown at 24.72, and Long at 25.91.

The Wolves are equally strong in the 400m with Duncanson entering at 54.77 and Ty Daniel close behind at 54.93. In the hurdles, Valeyna Renteria-Silva leads the 100m hurdles group at 15.64, followed by Kierra McKenna at 15.75 and Empress Malone at 15.85. Chloe Leblanc headlines the 400m hurdles at 59.65, while McKenna enters at 1:08.40 and Malone at 1:09.49.

Jumps, Vaults, & Throws
Bella Jones leads the high jump group with a clearance of 1.55m, followed by Nneka Okafor at 1.45m. Okafor also enters the long jump for the Wolves with a mark of 4.60m. West Georgia will also be represented in the triple jump by Alyvia Matthews at 11.45m and Jordan Kelly at 11.24m. In the pole vault, Carleigh Bynum leads the group at 3.75m, while Mallory Peavey enters at 3.26m.

Distance
The Wolves distance group is led by Reatta Danhof, who enters the 800m at 2:15.97 and the 1500m at 4:35.91. Linda Rivero follows in the 800m at 2:23.10, while Jordan Jarnot enters at 2:27.16 and Linda Vasquez at 2:30.37. In the 1500m, Kristal McQueen enters at 4:56.22, Rivero at 5:07.79, and Laney Pierce at 5:13.80. West Georgia also brings a strong 5000m group featuring Catherine Greer at 18:33.46, Kathrin Maurer at 18:40.11, Haley Hartman at 19:15, and Madeline Gaskin at 20:39.95.

Throws
Day Atkins headlines the shot put group with a mark of 13.74m, followed by Dru Green at 12.72m, Kyla Ford at 11.74m, and Leilah Mathieu at 11.55m. In the discus, Green leads the Wolves at 46.54m, while Atkins enters at 45.71m, Mathieu at 36.79m, and Ariana Hale at 35.01m. Atkins also tops the hammer throw group with a mark of 50.23m, followed closely by Green at 48.10m, Ford at 46.98m, and Mathieu at 38.63m.

Relays
West Georgia is scheduled to bring one 4x400 relay team into the meet. Squad A enters with a time of 3:52.95.
