CARROLLTON, Ga. - Tournament number three for the UWG men's golf team is set to begin Sunday in Birmingham, Alabama at Inverness Country Club at the GMAC Invitational.
Two tournaments into the 2026-27 season, the Wolves have a seventh place and an eleventh place finish, and will look to improve on that this week against a field that features 13 teams and individuals from Alabama and LSU.
Head coach Shannon Lipham's lineup looks similar to what it did in the season-opening tournament at Augusta where the Wolves finished seventh.
Junior Thomas Romani is atop the lineup as the Swiss is averaging 71.5 through six rounds through two events and has been at or under par in half of his rounds. Behind him in the second spot is freshman Reid Rockett. It's a return home as Rockett, who has started both tournaments this season, is from the Birmingham suburb of Hoover, just down the road from Inverness Country Club.
Hayden Canary, who had an ace in qualifying this week, is in the third spot. The sophomore is averaging 74.5 through six rounds this season.
Another freshman, JP Groat, is in the fourth spot for the Wolves, but Groat has the second-lowest scoring average on the team at 72.33, posting four of his first six collegiate rounds at par or better. A third freshman rounds out the lineup as Dallas Inch returns to the lineup. He debuted in the season-opening event, but did not travel to last week's Fall Golfweek Challenge in which the Wolves took 11th.
There's a fair amount of conference competition in Birmingham this week as the Wolves are joined by Central Arkansas and Austin Peay. ASUN foe West Florida is also in the field. Western Kentucky, USC Upstate, Belmont, Charleston Southern, Southeastern Louisiana, Winthrop, Tennessee Tech, Jax State, and tournament host UAB round out the full field.
Inverness Country Club will play at 6,731 yards for the event. The course was originally designed by George Cobb, who is famous for designing the par three course at Augusta National Golf Club.
The Wolves will play a practice round on Saturday before opening play on Sunday. The tournament features a round of 18 on Sunday, Monday, and Tuesday for a 54-hole total.
