Walker Sets 200m School Record at Samford Invite

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - Highlighted by Kellie Walker setting a UWG record in the 200m and multiple Wolves earning top-five finishes, the West Georgia women's track and field team kicked off the 2026 slate of events with a bang today at the Samford Invite.

Coming off of a ASUN Freshman of the Week performance, Walker put together another strong showing today, setting a UWG record in the 200m with a time of 24.99 to place fifth overall. Prior to that record-breaking performance, she earned seventh in the 60m with a time of 7.69. Walker wasn't the only Wolf to record a pair of top-ten finishes, Day Atkins also achieved this feat, throwing the shot put 12.32m for fifth place and recording a 15.48m mark in the weight throw to earn ninth. Carleigh Bynum's impressive 3.56m pole vault ranked her fifth overall. The 4x400 team, raced by Elise Duncanson, Chloe Leblanc, Empress Malone and Ty Daniel, placed fourth with a time of 4:02.30.
  
DISTANCE
Of the three Wolves racing in the 800m, Linda Rivero's 2:31.11 led the Pack and earned her 16th place. Following Rivero, Jordan Jarnot took 25th with a 2:39.77 and Linda Vasquez's 2:43.64 ranked her 26th.

Reatta Danhof's 5:19.26 led the Wolves in the mile and earned her 16th place out of 40 runners. Haley Hartman rounded out the Pack in 35th with a time of 6:06.71. 

In the 3000m, Catherine Greer led the way for the Wolves, placing 19th with a time of 11:21.95. Kristal McQueen followed in 23rd, recording a 11:33.01. Madeline Gaskin closed out the 3000m in 32nd, crossing the line at 12:28.30.

Starting the day with the longest event, the 5000m, Laney Pierce would place 16th, recording a  21:33.41. 

SPRINTS AND HURDLES 
Walker was the lone Wolf to qualify for the 60m finals after recording a time of 7.66. As previously mentioned, in the finals, her 7.69 placed her seventh overall. 

Of the four Wolves racing in the 60m hurdles, none qualified for the finals, but Leblanc would post a top time of 9.44 to place 18th overall.

As noted at the beginning, after taking seventh in the 60m, Walker would place fifth in 200m with a time of 24.99. Following Walker, Jaeva Ridley's 28.13 put her at 44th overall. 

In the 400m, Daniel earned ninth place, crossing the line with a team-best time of 57.45. Rounding out the Pack was Duncanson in 14th with a 58.55 and Leblanc in 18th with a 58.95. 

RELAY 
As noted, the 4x400 team's 4:02.30 placed them fourth overall out of 12 groups.

THROWS
Starting off the day with the weight throw, Dru Green and Day Atkins recorded top-ten finishes with Green's 16.28m toss earning his sixth and Atkins' 15.48m throw placing her ninth. Kyla Ford's 13.53m throw ranked her 21st to round out the Pack. These three of these competitors went back and forth on recording the team-best tosses last year, so be sure to keep an eye out for who pushes the pace in 2026.  

As noted, Atkins led the way for the Pack in the shot put, throwing it 12.32m to earn fifth overall. After Atkins, came Green in 21st with a 10.49m mark and Leilah Mathieu in 25th with her 10.15m throw.

JUMPS AND VAULTS
In the long jump, Kierra McKenna led the Wolves with a 4.78m leap to place 25th overall. Following McKenna, Genesis Price placed 31st with a 4.43m jump.

Alyvia Matthews placed eighth in the triple jump after recording a best mark of 11.09m. Jordan Kelly's 10.62m jump earned her 12th.

Bella Jones' 1.45m high jump ranked her 23rd overall. 

Following Bynum in the pole vault, Mallory Peavey placed ninth with a 3.26m vault. 

The Wolves take a short break before returning to the action on February 13-14, competing in the Tyron Mid-Winter Collegiate Invitational in Tyron, North Carolina.
